Do you love animals? Do you love the feeling of satisfaction that comes with saving the life of an abandoned animal? Do you find yourself asking “How can I make a difference?” Well look no further!
As San Francisco’s largest cat rescue organization, Give Me Shelter is always striving to expand its reach and success in rescuing as many cats as possible from death row. In order to do this, we need cat-savvy, fun-loving, high-energy people like you to volunteer! The work is fun and the rewards are tremendous!
Positions available:
FELINE CARETAKER
Responsibilities:
· Clean up to 8 cages
· Interact and play with 3-10 cats outside of their cages
· Interact with the public and answer questions
Locations:
· PetSmart (315 Gellert Boulevard, Daly City)
· Petco (1591 Sloat Boulevard, San Francisco)
Time Commitment:
· At least one shift per month
· Shifts can vary from 30 minutes to 5 hours depending on the number of cats
Requirements:
· Must be 18 years of age or older or have a guardian present
· Must attend an orientation
· Must be able to fulfill at least a 3-month commitment
· Must be familiar with cats and be comfortable handling them
· Must possess good communication skills
· Must sign a liability waiver
· Must find a substitute GMS volunteer if unable to fulfill a scheduled task

ADOPTION CENTER COORDINATOR
Responsibilities:
· Coordinate schedule for small staff of volunteers for daily cage cleaning and feeding of cats at one adoption center
· Coordinate small staff of volunteers for adoption events held every Saturday and Sunday from 11:00 – 4:00
· Attend adoption events regularly (Saturday or Sunday 11:00 – 4:00) and interact with the public by answering questions, completing all adoption paperwork and scheduling delivery of cats to adopters
· Maintain inventory for food, litter, cleaning supplies, etc.
· Respond to prospective adopters within 24 – 48 hours after an application is submitted
· Train new volunteers as needed
Locations:
· PetSmart (315 Gellert Boulevard, Daly City)
· Petco (1591 Sloat Boulevard, San Francisco)
Time Commitment:
· At least one adoption event per month on a Saturday or Sunday from 11:00 – 4:00 p.m.
· Approximately 1-2 hours a week to coordinate volunteers, tend to inventory needs, and respond to prospective adopters
Requirements:
· Must be 18 years of age or older
· Must attend an orientation
· Must be able to fulfill at least a 3-month commitment
· Must be familiar with cats and be comfortable handling them
· Must possess good communication skills
· Must have good office management skills
· Must sign a liability waiver
· Must find a substitute GMS volunteer if unable to fulfill a scheduled task

DRIVER FOR ANIMAL TRANSPORT
Responsibilities:
· Pick up adopted cat(s) from adoption center
· Transport cat(s) in carrying case(s) to adopter
· Perform home safety inspection prior to finalizing delivery of cat(s) to adopter and receiving adoption fee.
Pick-up locations:
· PetSmart (315 Gellert Boulevard, Daly City)
· Petco (1591 Sloat Boulevard, San Francisco)
Delivery locations:
· Mostly peninsula (Daly City, San Francisco, and surrounding cities)
· Occasionally Marin and East Bay
Time Commitment:
· At least two deliveries per week with ability to fulfill delivery within 24 hours of request.
Requirements:
· Must be 18 years of age or older
· Must attend an orientation
· Must be able to fulfill at least a 3-month commitment
· Must be familiar with cats and be comfortable handling them
· Must possess good communication skills
· Must sign a liability waiver
· Must find a substitute GMS volunteer if unable to fulfill a scheduled task
· Must possess a valid CA drivers license with a good driving record
· Must own a car that you are willing to transport animals in
· Must do well with navigation and driving directions

OTHER OPPORTUNITIES:
- Administrative help with our database, mailings etc.
- Help with planning & promoting fundraising events.
- Long term/short term fostering. Our save rate highly depends on how many foster homes we have. More fosters = more lives saved.
