Male
Domestic Short Hair / Tabby

Hi! My name is Harley! I was rescued at Peninsula Humane Society. I was trapped in someone's backyard and taken to the shelter as a stray. The shelter staff discovered I was chipped but the human registered to my chip had passed away in December 2021! The human's husband told the shelter staff she had given me away to another family before she passed away but he didn't know who had been taking care of me. Instead of taking me back, he chose to surrender me to the shelter. I felt so abandoned, but lucky for me, Give Me Shelter offered to help and now I'm safe in a foster home.

I'm a very sweet and very shy ginger kitty. I'll come across as a scaredy-cat when we first meet but I'm very gentle and will not bite or scratch. I'm just scared of being in new environments and around humans I don't know but can you blame me? I was dealing with housing and family instability for at least a couple of years and I'm cautiously optimistic because I've been let down in the past.

It will take me a couple of months to adjust and begin opening up. I just need to feel safe and know I can trust you after being abandoned by my previous humans. I like to lay low in new environments and will probably hang out in a safe and comfy spot most of the day, but when things quiet down at night I’ll come out, especially with a little coaxing. I'm a huge fan of mealtime so using food and treats is a great way to help break the ice and begin our friendship. Once I've had time to adjust, I’ll come to you for chin and ear scratches because I do enjoy the company of humans and receiving pets, although they might be brief in the beginning.

I’m currently in a foster home with other kitties and I get along really well with them. I don’t have to have a furiend in my forever home but having a calm and confident kitty around might help me come out of my shell more quickly.

I’m a very kind and chill kitty who only asks for your love and patience while we build our relationship. Are you a patient family who understands how rewarding it is to help a shy kitty like me open up and build confidence? And know how incredible our bond will be when I know you truly love me? I purromise to give you my heart if you give me your patience and love.
